GANAPATI MEMORIAL

The Ganapati Memorial Situated in the Ganapati Avenue, Chittaranjan, was the first establishment in the town. It was used as an office from where the entire township was planned and Constructed. It was built in the year 1948 and named after the First Chief Engineer of CLW Mahadeva Iyer Ganapati (known as M. Ganapati) (1903-1976)

DESHBANDHU LOCO PARK

Deshbandhu Loco Park started its journey on 29th July 2006 with the commissioning of 2 exhibits. Since then, it has grown bigger and has 14 exhibits. Latest Addition to the park is Amrit Digital Gallery which is dedicated on 19th October, 2023. The star attraction in the park is the joyride on a 1/4th gouge train pulled by “Fairy Princess Steam Loco”.

WG 8407 STEAM LOCOMOTIVE (DESHBANDHU): 1ST LOCO BUILT BY CLW

CLW commenced the production of steam locomotive on the 26th January 1950 (the date when India formally declared itself a Republic)  in collaboration with the North British Locomotive Company. On 1st November 1950, Indian President Dr. Rajendra Prasad formally declared the first Steam Locomotive produced by CLW to the freedom fighter Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das.

India built her last BG steam engine in 1970, a WG, named “Antim Sitara”. The engine was in steam till about 1996 hauling coal  trains to and from the coal washeries to coal mines, perhaps a dignified form of shunting.
