Introduction

The Mechanical Department is headed by Principal Chief Mechanical Engineering. He is assisted by Chief Mechanical Engineer/Manufacturing, Chief Mechanical Engineering/Loco, Chief Mechanical Engineer/SF, Dy. Chief Mechnical Enginners, Production Engineer, Dy. Chief Chemist and Metallurgist, Safety Officer Workshop Managers,  Chemist and Metallurgist, Asst. Workshop Managers, Asst. Safety Officers, Asst. Production Engineer and Asst. Chemist and Metallurgist. 

 

MANUFACTURING WING

Manufacturing group of shops consists of Heavy machine shop, wheel shop, light machine shop, smithy & forge shop, Heat treatment shop and tool Room.

  1. Wheel Shop:   The Wheel shop manufactures Wheel Sets for loco production as well as spares to Zonal Railways. Presently wheel sets for WAP-5, WAP-7and WAG-9 locos are manufactured.
  2. Heavy Machine Shop:  Heavy Machine Shop undertakes the  Manufacturing of 3 phase Stator (fabrication & machining, fitting) Fabrication of Headstock & bolster. Machining of transom, motor support etc. 
  3. Smithy & Forge shop: SFS undertakes fabrication of Head stock of WAG-9 loco, forging of small component of loco assembly.
  4. Light Machine Shop: LMS manufactures small components like various types of pins, bushes, roof mounting panto, tapped pad& brake rigging items etc. to meet the requirement of loco production. 
  5. Tool Room: Tool Rooms supplies tooling’s, gauges, jigs and fixtures for production requirements of various shops and also carries out calibration of various gauges, fixtures, instruments etc. to meet the ISO requirements. 
  6. Heat Treatment shop: Heat Treatment Shops undertakes heat treatment of bogies manufactured in Loco Shops and other items e.g. axle holder, motor support, support etc. manufactured in Heavy machine shop & Light machine shop

 

STEEL FOUNDRY

  1. Established in the year 1963 for supplying Steel casting products for Locomotives and Zonal Railways.
  2. Total area of the Plant: 45 acres (182108.70 sq m)
  3. Covered area: 12.4 acres (50181.064 sq m).
  4. Class “A” certified foundry approved by RDSO/ Lucknow as per IS 12117:1996
  5. Certified ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 organisation.

 

Heritage of CLW

CLW, the largest manufacturer of Electric Locomotives, named after great freedom fighter & son of the soil Shri Chittaranjan Das famous as “Deshbandhu”, it has a rich heritage of Locomotives that came through ages, this proud history is preserved in the “Deshbandhu Loco Park”. Let us visit some of the landmarks.
